Kakatpur is situated in puri District and it is a small village. Maa Mangala is the presiding deity of kakatpur and people beleived too much.The temple is situated near the bank of river prachi.
The village name is 'kakatpur ' and from this village there is a famous story behind it. Maa Mangala always hidden under the water of river prachi. From several years once a boatman was sailing his boat on the river prachi,on the way the river is flooded speedily and his boat went to the middle of the river.The boatman cannot sail his boat and he have to wait till morning. On that night maa mangala came in his dream and said you take me out of the deep water and put on the nearest village Mangalpur. The boatman drive into the water to take Maa Mangala and as per direction he made the Maa Mangala figure in the temple of mangalpur. Some days later he saw a crow drive into the water and didnot come out for hours and days on the same place where he drive into the water to take Maa Mangala. Kakatpur mangala temple has a close relation with Lord Jagannath temple at the time of Navakalebara festival.At this time the old deities are put under earth and made new idols for Lord Jagannath,Lord Balabhadra and his sister Maa Shubhadra. The idols are made of wood called 'Daru Brahma' but no body knows where the wood come to make the new idols as due to tradition the pujak came to Maa Mangala to pray for help them to find the wood.On the same night Maa came in the dream to show the path. The people beleived years together to Maa Mangala. She always blessed to the devotee .
The main festival of kakatpur Maa Mangala is 'jhamu yatra' which held in the month of vaishakh . On that festival every women of that village wash their house with cowdung for the purity and when the devotee come to the temple by carrying water on the head the women put the new cotton saree on the floor where they put the kalash.

The people wear the dhoti and gamucha to worship Maa Mangala and the women wear the pure new cotton saree or silk saree. On that day people gave the new cotton or silk saree to Maa Mangala to fullfill their wishes.After that the main deity pray to Maa Mangala and walk on the burning fire spread on a long feet. The deity didnot hurt or injured due to Maa Mangala blessing . Every year thousands of people come to visit Maa Mangala temple.She is the mother of universe.
