Murudeshwar temple
is present in the Murudeshwar, which is situated in Bhatkal Taluk of Uttara
Kannada district in the state of Karnataka, India. This is a very famous and
very popular temple of south India. Many people from all over the India coming
to this temple every year.
As India is
a country where Hindu community people are present in majority population from

Murudeshwar
temple is named after the name of popular Hindu god Shiva (Murudeshwar is

According to
Hindu mythologies the origin of the name "Murudeshwar" dates to the
time of Ramayana. Ramayana is a very important mythological story of Hindu
community; it describes the life history of Lord Rama.
According to
Hindu believe immortality and invincibility can be achieved by worshiping a
divine Lingam called the Atma-Linga. Linga is an important sign of Lord Shiva.
According to
Ramayana the Lanka King Ravana wanted to attain immortality by obtaining the
Atma-Linga (Soul of Shiva). Since the Atma-Linga belonged to Lord Shiva, Ravana
worshipped Shiva with devotion and Pleased by his prayers; Lord Shiva appeared
before him and fulfils Ravana’s wish by giving the Atma-Linga. But with conditions
that not put the Atma-Linga on ground before reaching Lanka otherwise it will
be impossible to take the Atma-Linga from that place to any other place. But
mistakenly Ravana put the Atma-Linga on ground and it is still on this
place.
People those
believe on Lord Shiva they come to this place to worship lord Shiva in regular
intervals, now days this place and Murudeshwar temple becomes a very popular
